Norwich Road Runners was formed in 1985, and has grown steadily to over 260 members today. The club has always concentrated on road running, with occasional forays into cross-country and other formats. We pride ourselves on being a friendly club welcoming runners both male and female, of all ages and of all abilities from complete beginners to the fastest in the county.

Club Nights

We meet at the Sewell Park College Sports Centre in the north of Norwich, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from about 7:00 pm ready to run at 7:15. On Tuesdays there is normally a coaching session on the sports field, and on Thursdays a road run of up to 8 miles, although shorter distances are always available. For safety, women and juniors are always accompanied.

It's very easy to start running with Norwich Road Runners.

You're very welcome to come and try us out. Just come up to the Sewell Park College Sports Centre (see here for a map) on a Tuesday or Thursday at about 7:00pm in the foyer, ready to run at 7:15pm. Introduce yourself as a new member and you will receive a warm welcome. There's always a committee member and/or one of our coaches there, and always plenty of willing people to explain things for you.

On Tuesdays we generally go for a short warm-up round the roads, followed by a coached efforts session on the sports field. You'll find every ability from beginners to the fastest in East Anglia, so you'll have no problem finding someone to run with. On Thursdays we normally go out on the streets for a run up to 9-10 miles, but with plenty of organised cut-off points for those who want to run a shorter distance. In the summer we may also go off-road across Mousehold Heath.

There's no obligation to join straightaway - you'll soon know whether you like us, and after a couple of weeks you can decide for yourself! The subscription is a mere £20 per year, and that gets you a discount of £2 when you enter races, as well as your UK Athletics registation. Nor do you have to commit to coming both nights. Membership forms are available on club nights, or you can download one from here Membership Form.

The Blyth-Jex is well-equipped with showers and changing rooms, and lockers for your kit. Most importantly, there is also a well-stocked bar for those post-training discussions and re-hydration!

Please feel free to send an email if you have any other questions.

If you're a complete beginner to running, the Tuesday session is likely to be the more suitable for your first visit. However, we also run a special coaching session on Monday nights at 7:00pm for complete beginners, in order to help you make those first steps along with other beginners. You can find more details here.

Beginners Sessions

For complete beginners to running, we are now running training sessions on Monday nights at the Sewell Park College Sports Centre , starting at 7:00pm with one of our qualified coaches. These have proved to be so popular, that you can now just turn up in order to take your first steps at running. Introduce yourself to one of the coaches, and you'll receive a warm welcome! There's no obligation to join straight away, so what's stopping you?

What Else?

In addition to the regular club nights, we have a series of social events throughout the year, including barbecues, quiz nights, a Christmas party, a treasure hunt, camping weekends and more. On Sunday mornings informal groups meet for longer training runs, and you'll find plenty of support if you're training for the London Marathon through those dark winter nights. At least once a year, a party from the club travels abroad to compete; recent trips have been to Reims, Amsterdam and Lanzarote. We compete strongly in the local road-racing scene, plus forays further afield when we organise trips to races throughout the country. Some members also take part in triathlons and duathlons, adventure racing, Tough Guy, orienteering and other crazy pursuits.

Our Races

We organise several regular road races in Norfolk. The popular Wroxham 5K races take place in late spring and summer, and the Broadland Half Marathon in March is ideal for those training for a spring marathon. In the winter we organise a cross-country series at Horsford near Norwich.
